Slow Speeds DUO RND2000 v1

ok so ive connected it directly anf the transfer speeds seemed ok. up and down ranged from 20MB/s to 10MB/s. Connected it back to the router and now the transfer from NAS to PC is up to just under 20MB/s but the upload to the nas is back to 50kb/s?
Just tested my laptop that's connected to the router with a wireless usb dongle (neatgear WNDA3100 v2) and that appears to be ok. Both uploading and downloading to the NAS was around 2-3 MB/s. Not great speeds but atleast it's consistant.
