Sluggish AFP access, Finder hangs: Permissions issues?

I recently did a factory reset of my 314. As part of that process, I had to backup all my data to a spare NTFS-formatted drive and then transfer it back to the NAS.

Since restoring, I've experienced dozens of Finder hangs and sluggish performance when accessing shares via AFP. This is most noticeable on my iTunes share, which is where I host my iTunes library (40k tracks).

Now, I realize that some short hangs might be expected when hosting a large library on a network-attached drive. But prior to the factory reset, my desktop iTunes client handled the iTunes mount pretty much like a directly attached external drive. It was responsive and rarely hiccuped. That's no longer the case.

It got me wondering whether permissions might be an issue, as they might not have tranferred properly from the NTFS volume or been recreated properly following the factory reset.

Does anything below look problematic?

If you spot anything amiss, please recommend a solution. Or if you can sugest another possible reason for the hangs, please let me know.

Perhaps just reset the permissions on the share, and then change the network permissions back so admin is read/write and everyone else is read-only.

      That didn't work, unfortunately.

It's still so unbelievably sluggish. Even Time Machine seems to be taking ages to back up, saying that it's going to take 7 hours to back up 400MB of files.

Maybe I need to do some system maintenance? What order is recommended: Defrag, Scrub and then Balance?

How full is your volume? Can you send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?
