SMB connection limit
Hello Can anyone tell me whether there is an SMB connection limit for models RN516 and RN102? If so, are they different? Does Netgear have a recommended number of users/connections for each mod...

Netgear suggests 40 simultaneous users (max) with the RN422. That increases to 80 simultaneous users with the RN52x series.
The RN422 should serve, but you might consider the RN524 if the usage is heavy or you expect much growth over the system lifetime.
I'd recommend a 4 bay unit anyway, it gives you more storage expansion later on.

Thanks for this. Can you tell me where you're seeing these figures? I'd be interested in checking what Netgear's official recommendations are for all the various models we currently have.
jak0lantash posted some technical specs above which suggested Netgear were saying each unit could cope with 1024 concurrent connections, but as he pointed out, this seems unlikely. You must be looking at different recommendations?

First, you might be interested in this new performance white paper: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_OS_Performance_Guide.pdf
Netgear started adding simultaneous users to their datasheets - not always in the same place though. Search for users, and you'll eventually hit it.

The older NAS (RN10x, RN20x, RN31x, RN51x, RN71x) didn't include this info, just the (IMO) meaningless max connections and max user specs.
BTW I grabbed the wrong number for the RN520 series - it should have been 80. The RN620 number is 120. I've edited the original post.
