SMB shares dying on OS X
Hi All,
Has anyone run into the problem of SMB shares dying between Mac clients and ReadyNAS OS 6? I connect SMB shares using auto_fs, and they are usable, but after some period of time, after I come back, the shares are still "mounted" by inaccessible. I have to forcefully umount the shares (sometimes several times) and then the share becomes usable again.
Details:
OS X 10.12.2 (problem present in previous versions)
ReadyNas OS 6.6.1 (problem present in OS 6.6, possibly others)
Setup:
/etc/auto_master:
# # Automounter master map # +auto_master # Use directory service /net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid /home auto_home -nobrowse,hidefromfinder /Network/Servers -fstab /Media auto_media /- -static
/etc/auto_media:
Pictures -fstype=smbfs,soft ://user:pass@x.x.x.x/Pictures Videos -fstype=smbfs,soft ://user:pass@x.x.x.x/Videos Music -fstype=smbfs,soft ://user:pass@x.x.x.x/Music
mount:
/dev/disk1 on / (hfs, local, journaled) devfs on /dev (devfs, local, nobrowse) map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse) map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse) map auto_media on /Media (autofs, automounted, nobrowse) //user@x.x.x.x/Videos on /Media/Videos (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse) //user@x.x.x.x/Music on /Media/Music (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse, mounted by xxx) //user@x.x.x.x/Pictures on /Media/Pictures (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse, mounted by xxx)
Test:
mini-server:Media xxx$ pwd /Media mini-server:Media xxx$ ls -l ls: Videos: Permission denied total 64 drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Nov 9 21:19 Music drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Jan 19 19:38 Pictures mini-server:Media xxx$ sudo umount Videos mini-server:Media xxx$ ls -l ls: Videos: Permission denied total 64 drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Nov 9 21:19 Music drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Jan 19 19:38 Pictures mini-server:Media xxx$ sudo umount Videos mini-server:Media xxx$ ls -l total 96 drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Nov 9 21:19 Music drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Jan 19 19:38 Pictures drwx------ 1 xxx wheel 16384 Nov 9 21:19 Videos mini-server:Media xxx$ cd Videos mini-server:Videos xxx$ ls Android Home Video mini-server:Videos xxx$
Notice that I get permission denied on the Video share. I have to try to umount a few times before it starts working. Any ideas?

Hi bobaloca,
Not really a Linux support but may I ask what other protocols are enabled on the share in question.

Only SMB and DLNA, but I have considered switching to NFS to see if it resolves the issue. That said, SMB is supposed to be the preferred protocol for OS X now, so I would prefer to figure out what's going on.

Hi bobaloca,
You could probably consider the information found on the link below:
Recommendation for using AFP and SMB in the same environment
