SOLVED USB firmware recovery steps after unresponive 6.2.2.

Re: SOLVED -- Can't boot after trying to update to 6.2.3 bet

Can't boot after trying to update to 6.2.3 beta5
The mdgm message was unfortunately posted after I did the upgrade.

If you have a legacy 6-bay x86 device I would hold off on 6.2.3 Beta 5. If you need the changes in 6.2.3 Beta 5 on one of these devices try 6.3.3 Beta 5.

Too late. I did the update before this was posted :-).
I am in exact the same situation. I did the update to beta 5 (on a ReadyNAS Pro 6) and I can not access the unit - it's invisible in the router. I will just copy and paste what cerjzc wrote because it is the same. (Unfortunately I have no backups )
" Pro 6 I found it said that it was booting and updating the firmware, but it had sat there for close to 6 hours. I was unable to ping the device and Raidar was not able to detect it. So I tried a reboot and now all I get is the fan's running on high and the READYNAS display with the progress bar going across the bottom over and over again. I tried a complete power off and reboot again, but still the same READYNAS and the progress bar."
Unfortunately I do not know how to re-do a USB re-flash.
From the boot menu, though I can select the options (Flash overwrite, Factory Default, etc - the reset button does not select any of them - with the exception of Memory test !!)
So please help me fix this by sharing the exact steps of a USB recovery.
I did create a USB flash using NTWrite and a 6.2.2 img.. but I don't know what's next

UPDATE: as mdgm recomended I did perform the USB recovery information from
http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=159 - (downloaded ReadyNAS_x86_USB_Flash_Recovery-4.2.12.zip)
using 6.3.3 -T-135 image renamed as the RAIDiator-x86-4.2.24 (The only download working on the page - specific just for the 4.2.24 image)

It worked

Thank you

  • Thanks, mdgm for all your help especially this time.

My 516 has been running well with the last beta but I was in the same boat on my Pro 6.

I never knew you could apply OS6 on a Pro 6 via USB recovery... you should learn something new every day and I got my quota today.

    You guys are lifesavers.
