Sony to ReadNAS DLNA can see folders but not files

I have a ReadyNAS Duo
RAIDiator Version: 4.1.7 Date: Sat Nov 6 00:09:53 2010 Size: 62341120
I have .avi files (which the TV can play via a USB stick) have done a rescan of media.

The Sony Bravia NX5 TV. can browse to the ReadyNas, see the share folder, see the Video folder and the actual movie folder, however it sees the folder as empty.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

  • Thanks for the reply.
I searched on here before posting and found that update.
I already installed "Latest ReadyDLNA Standard Update Addon Package (1.0.21)"

And cannot see the .avi files
  • Cheers
I've eventually found out, that whilst the Sony supports .avi, .divx via a USB stick,
Sony Bravia supposedly only supports MPEG-2 and AVCHD (m2ts?) via DLNA

How backward is that, looks like I will either have to get something like Popcorn or set up a spare PC to act as a media server.
    Bit annoying.
  • just another option for ya...i use a wdtv live device with a little mini usb wireless dongle and it has played every single format i have thrown at it with no problems from my readynas. you can get the wdtv live device for around $85 + $15-20 for the mini usb wireless dongle. if you want to spend like 10 more dollars you can get a wdtv live plus device which lets you stream netflix as well.
  • Hi b00st3d. Can you clarify how you have things connected with your WD TV Live box and the ReadyNAS? I currently have a ReadyNAS NV+ (4.1.7) and Sony Blu-Ray BDP-BX57 connected to the same wired network. I've enabled the "iTunes Streaming Server", which I'm using to stream MP3s to workstations using Firefly; I've enabled "ReadyDLNA" and pointed it to my Photos, Music and Video shares, which has allowed the Blu-Ray player to stream MP3s and display photos. However, when I browse the NAS to stream video, I can see the folder structure but I get a "there is no playable file" error. I know that AVIs, MP4s, MOVs, and WMVs exist on the Video share (and the Sony Blu-Ray is supposed to support AVI). I then enabled "Home Media Streaming Server" and pointed it to my Video share. No change.

So I am interested in understanding how I can stream video content from the NV+ to my TV without relocating media to another dedicated machine. It sounds like you accomplished this with the WD TV Live device and the wireless dongle. I would prefer to go all wired with any solution ... better yet, I would prefer not to have to "add" anything ...

Any suggestions? I've been reviewing the forum, User Guide, Definitive Guide, etc. for some time and feel like I'm missing something ...
  • The way I have it setup is this:

My readynas duo has a media share on it which is the selected share with the ReadyDLNA plugin...

I have 2 WDTVLive boxes, one wired directly into my network on one tv and one with a little wireless dongle connected to the same network.

Thats it! Since they both are connected to the same network my ReadyNAS Duo is connected to, they both see my ReadyDLNA media share and those WDTV Live boxes have played every format I have ever thrown at it!

From what I have experienced, most DLNA equipped TVs and BD players will not play videos from a DLNA network share for some reason. They will only play videos from flash drives plugged into them. This is why I went with the WDTV live boxes!
