Spin Up, Spin Down

Anybody knows if spin down setting in Frontview applies also to USB connected drive?
I have an USB connected drive. It's being accessed only occasionally. Like sometimes 5 times a day, sometimes only once for 2 days. Quick data availability is not that important in this case. So I would prefer to have it spun down most of the time. To turn it on/of manually would be inconvenient as the thing lays down in another room then the workstation.
