Spotlight
Sorry for asking a silly question. But does spotlight not work on the readynas? I had an NV+ and now have a new 516. On both of them I've enabled indexing on the volume using mdutil and always thought it was working. I never really had a reason to think it wasn't until I went here and saw people talking about needing to have spotlight support compiled into nettalk. So does spotlight work or not work?
I use AFP to connect to all my shares on both the NV+ and the 516.

- PigletLuminarySpotlight does currently (OS 6.2.2) not work on ReadyNAS. The reason is that Spotlight relies on the local machine the disk is attached to for keeping the search index metadata up to date. In this case it would be the ReadyNAS. This hasn't been possible before, but now Netatalk (the open source project that provides AFP networking) has that capability. Netgear has not yet enabled this functionality though.
And yes, you can force your local Mac to index the remote NAS. But this won't work properly and the index will have to be re-created every time the disk is mounted.
