hi there..if i want to put in a new harddisk in my Readynas duo, which allready got movies on. Will they be deleted when i start the nas or will it just install the os and dont delete anything?

It will wipe the disk, so all data will be deleted. You must backup your data first if you want to keep it. If you value your data you should backup your data regularly anyway.Glad you asked before inserting the disk.

thx for the fast answer.. believe me, im glad ive asked too :)What if i use another hdd first to get to os on, and then put in the other with the files on ? Would it still delete the files?

It still needs to wipe the disk.The OS is stored on both disks. The NAS needs to format all disks that are installed.

So first install a different hard drive of the same size, create shares on its C volume, and copy your files onto it over the network. Then install the drive with the movies as the second drive. It will be wiped, and you will end up with a RAID-1 C volume (protected against 1 drive failure). This will be the same size as your existing drive (not 2x).RAID is helpful, but doesn't guarantee data safety. So you will need a backup of some kind - a USB drive perhaps.

i thought i should do it before insert it :s

this is the initial drive. i had a 320 gb in it before it put the 2tb in ..

Is RAIDar detecting the NAS at all?

You can try removing the drive, connecting it to a Windows PC, and deleting all volumes on the drive with Windows Disk Manager (right-click computer, select "Manage"), and inserting it again. Deleting the volumes will return the disk to an unformatted state.

I deleted the volumes and tried again, and now its up and running :)
