storage capacity not increased (on Readynas 316) after deleting large amount of files

My ReadyNas 316 storage 6 bay unit (firmware 6.9.4) is fast filling up, with less than 10% free disk space available (as reported to my Win 10 PC). I'm getting worried as my I have les...
It can take a while for space to be reclaimed, as that happens in the background.
However, I am wondering if you are deleting the wrong snapshots. Generally you should delete the oldest ones, though this does depend on the age of the files you deleted (or modified) earlier. If you have a folder that has lots of "churn" - for instance one used for torrent downloads, then you should delete all the snapshots, and turn them off on that share.
So try being more aggressive on the snapshot deletions. You can also try running a balance, as that does help reclaim space.
After you sort this out, you might want to consider switching to "custom" snapshots, which let you set retention (either in weeks or in number of snapshots).

I deleted an old snapshot on a share that contained some large files including a system image backup. It took a while, but then I noticed that capacity started to increase.
Appreciate the advice on removing snapshots for shares that have high volume/changes. I now keep on maintain snapshots for critical shares.
ps. I am assuming snapshots have replaced recycle bin

Yes, though they do behave somewhat differently.
If you have snapshots enabled, note that you can right-click on a file or folders in Windows and restore a previous version using the "restore previos versions" menu option. Of course you can also use the admin web ui.
