- Bagpuss1AspirantThat depends on whether you are willing to jailbreak (once the iPad2 jailbreak is out there, of course). If you are, then XBMC would be my personal favourite. It can map SMB shares, and then browse the ReadyNAS. It's also the only application (on the original iPad, as least) which is optimised enough to be able to playback 1080p MKVs without stuttering (it scales them appropriately).
If you want a non-jailbreak solution, then I can recommend BUZZ Player HD. This can mount SMB shares, but also understands DLNA servers. It's not quite as optimised, but it does a good job on most files.
Hope that helps,

The community add-on AirVideo is a good option but it won't work on 32-bit x86 ReadyNAS (e.g. the NVX) at this time unfortunately. - iwolfAspirantI am happily streaming to the SmartStor Fusion Stream on my iPhone4 and iPad1 from my ReadyNAS NV+ (4.1.7) with the ReadyDLNA add-on enabled. This iPhone/iPad app automatically found my server and displays videos full screen on the iPad. Best of all, it's free!
As for the material I'm streaming, it's MP3 audio and M4V video files ripped from DVDs using Handbrake. I haven't tried other file formats yet.

Works on my NVX - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGood point you need to have the ffmpeg installed. I would probably recommend giving AirVideo a try then.
- tmellisAspirantI, too, had Air Video working fine initially, but after a reboot it displayed an empty Media folder.
While I understand many on this board routinely use SSH to correct issues with Air Video, this is not a solution for those of us with less experience. But, really, in this day and age should software require that I access root commands through a terminal interface? If the software isn't well written, don't post it.
I'll wait until someone provides a fix or develops a more robust solution. Until then, this will be nothing more than a niche solution. - super_poussinVirtuoso

can you provide more explainatation and also which raidiator version your are using same for AirVideo and if ffmpeg addon is installed - tmellisAspirantS-P:
Here is my setup:
ReadyNAS Ultra6
RAIDiator v4.2.16
AirVideo v1.9.00
ffmpeg v1.2
AirVideo (free version)
Frontview shows both AirVideo and ffmpeg running. I can see the server and Media folder in AirVideo, but the media folder shows 0 files.
I have turned the AirVideo/ffmpeg server off, rebooted, and back on again with no change.
Thanks! - super_poussinVirtuosotmellis : do you use the media folder with default perm and settings ??
- tmellisAspirantI do not use the default settings. These are my Media folder settings:
CIFS: Default access: Read/Write
AFP: Default access: Read/Write
FTP: Default access: Read/Write, plus: "automatically set permissions on new files and folders"
