Suppose I would indeed use one of the other streaming services like SqueezeCenter or ReadyDLNA to stream to the iPad (assuming there is an app for that), how do I create (smart) playlists with those? At least Firefly let's you create playlists like iTunes on the PC/Mac. For me this is crucial as Classical, Children's and Pop music all sit in the same folder.
