It could be that the memory actually failed. (Or some other hardware component that prevents bootup from starting).

How do I check the memory slot? Would be strange that this should suddenly happen... Just suddenly happened while working - NAS rebooted on its own and has been stuck there ever since.
If you purchased a business unit new in 2009, you should still be under warranty (which is 5 years for business models). In that case, use support.netgear.com - you likely will need an RMA.
