Well if you remember next time you visit your vacation place you could look into the issue with that unit.
Updating the firmware leaves the data intact. In any case you should backup important data primarily stored on the ReadyNAS regularly (e.g. to a USB disk, another NAS or some place else). RAID is not a replacement for backups.
