The dreaded "Invalid checksum detected in the update file. u

The dreaded "Invalid checksum detected in the update file. update aborted".
I am experiencing this exact same problem

"LMS v7.7.2 uninstalled OK, and after re-booting the ReadyNAS, I tried to re-install LMS v7.7.2 again, using the same file as the original installation. The file verification passed OK, but when I proceeded with perform system update it failed with the pop-up message "invalid checksum detected in the update file. update aborted"."

Mine is a Netgear NAS Duo. I was able to install LMS 7.7.2 (logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-sparc-readynas.bin) successfully in the past. It was running smoothly on my NAS for many months.

I recently chose to install the 7.7.3 version because my LMS (7.7.2) had become very unstable (dropping connections to the server, disconnecting from the server with increasing frequency while playing from my SB and SBP, both wired to the router). I have done the usual clean up, wiped clean the previous version steps. When I tried to re-installed (local), it said that file was ok, but then when I tried to run the update, i got the same pop-up message "invalid checksum detected in the update file. update aborted".

I re-download 7.7.3 from logitech web site. Same problem.
I managed to find my original 7.7.2 bin file from my old thumb drive (which i successfully installed many months ago). This time. Same "checksum" problem.

Have anyone of you found a solution for this problem (short of a factory re-set)?

This could be due to a permissions issue. Does the NAS reject any and all Sparc add-ons as invalid?
  • mdgm,
I tried the two Sparc add-ons (the "old" 7.7.2 LMS and the more recent 7.7.3 LMS). They both gave the same "Invalid checksum" error (this is what you meant by "reject" right?). First, I thought the file was corrupted during download, so I downloaded it one time and then again on another laptop and using a different browser. All gave me the same "Invalid checksum..." error. As I said, I even locate my previously "good" 7.7.2 LMS file, again, same "checksum" error.
  • I don't remember installing it specifically. How to I verify if I have it or not? (This is for root access right?)

    Yes.

If you attempt to SSH in (e.g. using PuTTy on Windows) to the I.P. of the NAS, get a login prompt, enter the user 'root' and the password (initially set to be the same as the admin password when EnableRootSSH is installed, but it can be changed) gets you in then you have installed it. Otherwise not.

If SSH is not enabled then check your PM inbox. I believe I sent you a PM earlier.
  • I decided to restore the Readynas Duo to its factory default. So, first I back up all my files. Then I did the step to restore to factory default.
After I did that, I was able to re-install LMS 7.7.3 without running into the dreaded "Unexpected Checksum..." message. So there you have it, my problem is solved, albeit, brute force.

Ok, now I just need to copies my backed up files back to the NAS drives.
