Where is the destination disk, and how is it formatted?

If you chose FAT32 for a USB drive, then that file system can't handle files > 4GB.

Its working through AFP

I dont remember. All i know is it only works with AFP

The files are not "backed up" between disks.
If you have a redundant xraid or raid 1 volume then effectively one disk is a mirror of the other and your data will survive a single disk failure.
This should not be seen as a backup though.

Okay here is the issue in greater detail.


When i transfer files from my macbook pro to my readynas 102 it says file size to large. But the weird is that this isnt always the case. I only get this error when connecting to my nas via (SMB) and not through (AFP). Why is this?

I'm not sure why this isn't working with SMB.

What do you mean as not seen as a back up? I got this to replace having two external drives that i would have to plug in and mirror my files, so i got this to do it for me. By mirroring i am just doing it for redundancy.


I have a question about it though. How do I know if drive A is really mirroring to drive B ? I dont see anything on the NAS GUI about comparing the two drives to make sure they are mirrored. To check i shut down my nas took out drive B and mounted to an external drive connector.. My computer wouldnt let me view it? What if my ready NAS goes bad and I need to get my files off? I assumed that i would just be able to unlug it from the nas and drop it into a HDD dock? Apparently not? While i was doing this i forgot to see what my drive was formatted as. Is there anyway to see via the GUI?

If its not allowing me to transfer files from my computer to my NAS under SMB but it is under AFP what does that mean? I work with Macs exclusively but i am building a windows computer soon.


Anyways are there ways to extract files off my disks mounted inside my NAS without my NAS?
