TIVO in the UK

I'm in the US, so I don't know if any of what follows is helpful. I had a problem getting my Readynas to recognize my Tivo when I first tried two years ago. It turns out that the Tivo uses and requires the Apple Bonjour protocol to be enabled and functional on a network for the Readynas to be able to see the Tivo. Specifically, Bonjour broadcast packets have to be passed on the user's network. (at least they did 2 years ago, it's possible this info is obsolete)
Usually this is the case by default, but if not be sure Bonjour discovery service is enabled on the Readynas (it's under discovery services). it may be necessary to enable AFP (Apple File Protocol) - probably not, but who knows.
Be sure the home network passes Bonjour discover packets. Most do, a few do not. For example, I have a Linksys WRT610N version 1 router. As it turns out on this specific router a security setting called "filter multicast" has to be enabled (i.e., the box checked); if it is not enabled, Bonjour discovery is not passed, and the REadynas will not see the Tivo. This is a specific issue to my model router, but it's certainly possible other routers may have settings required to enable Bonjour discovery.
There are also settings on the Tivo that I believe need to be enabled for it to connect to a Readynas. On my tivo.com account, I see that I have "video sharing" enabled - I don't know of this is necessary but it may be. Note that this setting is enabled on the tivo.com web site, and takes a while to be communicated by Tivo central to the user's tivo itself. I don't know if the Virgin Media web site has similar configuration options. You might check the settings pages on the tivo box itself to see if there are configuration options to permit access over a home network.
Once your readynas can see your tivo, you set a time each day for archiving to start, on the readynas tivo configuration screen. AT this time, all shows on the Tivo that are set to "keep until I delete" are archived (that is, copied) to your readynas (unless the shows have been previously archived to the readynas).
You should also see an entry on the top level "my shows" screen for the readynas; selecting this will display, on the TV connected to the Tivo, all shows archived (stored) on the readynas. You can then transfer a show back to the Tivo for viewing.
Note that both transfers - Tivo to Readynas and readynas to Tivo - do not erase the show on the source device, they copy it over. This is NOT the same as streaming. Also, the show as it is stored on the Readynas is, as I recall, stored on the readynas in Tivo encrypted format, and cannot be directly viewed on a device other than a Tivo. That said, there's a lot of software out there, much of it free, that can unencrypt the shows, using the Tivo's media access key as a decryption key.
