Ultra 2 - Password

Hi

I have a Macbook Pro and got a Readynas Ultra 2.
I got it to work some time back but didn't use it for a while.
I upgraded til Lion and got problems with the Mac and had to do a fresh install of Lion.

Now i tried to get access to the NAS again and installed the software. I can see NAS and i try to click "setup"
I must have forgotten the password to Frontview, cause i can't get access.
I tried password recovery and it says that a new password will be sent to my mail, but it doesn't (or else it's more than 5 weeks on the way : )
I tried to reset the server. Press reset with a paperclip, press the button over the USB port two or four times so LED 1 or 2 is lit. (i've tried both). Then click reset again.

Default password: admin/netgear1 doesn't work.

Anyone has some good advice what i can try or what i have done wrong ?

Thx

  • Keep in mind that when you perform an OS Reinstall, it will reset not only the username and password for the admin UI. It will also reset the NICs back to their defaults. So if you have statically assigned IP addresses in the system, they will be removed from the NAS.
  • Thx for replies.

I've tried with both LED1 (Factory default) and LED2 (OS reinstall)

    But i'll try again.

What exactly should i do ?
    - Power off
    - Paperclip on "reset" and power on.
    - Led light up
    - Push button 4 times so LED2 lid up
    - Push reset again with paperclip (not hold, just push)
    - ?? (power off ?) (leave it on for x min ?)
  • As it is stated in the link, here is the layout to the related options in the boot menu.
    1. Power off your unit.
    2. Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
    3. Press the Power button to power on the unit.
    4. Continue to press the Reset button until the Power button LED, USB and backup status LED, disk 1 LED, and disk 2 LED are lit
    5. Press the Backup button to scroll through the boot mode options.
The unit shows the boot mode options using the LEDs, as described in the following table:

    Boot Mode / Status Indicator
Normal / Power LED is lit.
Factory default / Disk 1 LED is lit. Warning: This erases ALL data on the drives!!!!!!!!
OS reinstall / Disk 2 LED is lit. This option resets your password and NIC settings

Press and release Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection.

After you confirm the selection, the NAS will shut down and reboot performing the selected task. I really hope that you did not factory default the device; because all your data will be gone, and you will have to set up the unit like it's brand new again.
  • I have tried both before, but since all data is still there and password has not been reset i guess it hasn't worked :)

I'll try again in the weekend with a OS re-install.

    Thx again
  • No problem. Let us know how things turn out, and please be sure not to chose the factory default option. :)
  • It worked :)

I think i have been to fast to turn of the NAS instead of letting it boot itself.

Thx again and have a nice weekend
