Ultra 4 Transfer speed very slow.

Hi all.
I have a RNDU4000 with 2x3TB WD
When I connect the NAS directly to my PC with CAT5 cable both the nas and pc is telling me the connection is 1GigaBit/s
when I copy files to the nas the speed is 47.7 MB/s that is the fastest speed I gett and that is very slow.

1 Gigabit = 128 MB/s

Right now I am copying file before I connect it to my Router DGDN4000 that I connect to my computer and devices with 5GHz band 450 MegaBit/s speed.
and when I have the connected to the router and copy file throw wifi 5GHz band I get the speed about 10 to 15 MB/s
and that is the same speed I got from my old wifi router that only have 108Mb/s wifi speed.

So how can it be that I get the same speed on my new router as on my old router I both 2004?

Is there a way to gett more speed

  • Sorry haven't changed my sig I don't have NV+ V2 any more I returned it back to the store and got the Ultra 4.

I will do more test on my PC and the MBP later on.

Is there any speed difference between AFP and CIFS?
when I do the test I use the same file and do the transfer 3 times.

I am not hoe right now so don't know the NIC my PC is using.

The firmware on the Ultra is the latest one.
  • Avorill,

My ultra4 runs with 4 3TB disks (see my sig), using CIFS, i can't exceed 50MB/s, read or write, i usually runs at around 40-45MB/s.

But using FTP transfer (between my computer and my NAS), i usually get 105-110MB/s read and 60-65MB/s write.

The ultra4 hardware (and a part of software too, i guess) doesn't allow it to get higher speed. The jumbo frame setting brings really random results.

Jumbo frames should be off anyway, as his router doesn't support them.
  • Did you guys ever find what was holding up the speeds?

I have gig ethernet on my PC, going to a 100mb swith, which goes to a r6300v2 AC router, then NAS is connected directly to the 6200 V2.

i know the switch is my weak point, i am getting about 11mb/s when transferring files to the NAS. is that about right? i feel like it should be much faster.

what would be the estimated speed bump if i replace the switch with a gigabit one?

Notes: both my computer and Nas show the MTU at 1500

forum question, how do i subscribe to a thread?

11 MB/s (megabyte per second) is right => 88 mbits/sec. There are control packets as well as data packets on the wire, and some "dead" periods when one side or the other is waiting. So it doesn't quite add up to 100 mbits.

    Large file reads at @ ~90 MB/s, large file writes@ ~60 MB/s. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas- ... l=&start=2

Definitely worth the investment, unmanaged gigabit switches are very inexpensive.

First of all, that's the correct value for your network. Second, those are settings, not status.
