Ultra 6 and 6 3TB HD in raid 5 creates 15TB volume

Hello,

I purchased the Ultra 6 a while ago and am finally getting around to populate it with Hard drives. I would like to maximize space and redundancy, and i think what i list below will work, Can you guys confirm what i think?

My plan is to buy 6 3TB drives, the Wester Digital Red drives have been reco'd by a friend.

The plan is to run with all 6 supporting one 15TB volume using Raid 5.

Is there anything fancy to do, setup wise, to support this? I am assuming Flex raid is what i will use, and i've interacted with it and it seems straightforward.

I wanted to confirm before i throw down for hard drives and configurations.

Thanks

Adam

I would recommend RAID-6 (or X-RAID2 dual-redundancy) not RAID-5 (or X-RAID2 single-redundancy) with high capacity disks, but yes you could do that.

Note the Ultra 6 needs to be running 4.2.16 or later to support 3TB drives. Put one disk in, update the firmware, verify the update was successful, then power down, put the rest of the disks in and do a factory default.
