Unable to reinstall OS - instructions doesn't work

I'm very confused. The label under my device says ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 v2. I find the manual for Duo v2 - but the back of my device looks nothing like the image they say is the back of a Duo v2. My back looks like the back of a Duo v1. I tried instructions for both, but I'm unable to reinstall it.

Instructions for v1 says: "To perform an OS reinstall, continue to hold the Reset button until all Disk LEDs flash once, after about 5 seconds, and then release the button."
I do this, but it doesn't say what to do next, or what's supposed to happen? Because nothing happens. And if I restart it later, they password is not reset.

Instructions for v2: I hold the reset button until LEDS flash. I press the backup button several times, but no LEDS light up. The backup button does nothing, even though the instructions says it should light up the different LEDs to select boot mode.

Can anyone help?

My device looks exactly like this: http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/B0063E3ZPO_ReadyNASDuo_FrontBack_lg.jpg

  • Ok, turns out the password appear to have been reset afterall... I thought the default password was "password", but it was "netgear1". So problem fixed!

      Can you access your data?

      Do you have a backup?

Ok, then we have established that I have a V1, even though Netgear website itself identified the serial number as v2...

The NAS works fine, I just need to reset the password so that I can access the web interface.

As mentioned, holding the reset button until the LEDs blink doesn't appear to do anything. If it actually does reinstall the OS, it doesn't reset the password. When i visit http://ip/passsword_recovery/ I'm shown the previous password hint.

Is it possible to remove the disk and do a factory reset? I don't want to lose the data on the drives.
