You can't change the default "admin" username, or delete/disable that account. But you can and should change its password. If something happens and you forget it, you can do an OS reinstall - which will reset the admin password to password, and reset the IP configuration to use dhcp. Data (and other settings) remain intact.

I know the default user name can not be modified, however I was able to add another admin account. This is something that I now cant do. Likewise, I can make a user account but unable to access this account or folder internally or externally.

I still suggesting changing the password on the built in admin account.

I don't know how you did it before, since AFAIK it has never been supported.

Hi,
When I first got the NAS I set up 3 shared folders. One for each member of staff. I then made 4 accounts. Mine (PC1staid) and theirs in their name. The 3 shared folders were then given the properties of the User account being allocated to the relevent folder, plus my account as well. When you looked at the share it had listed admin/PC1staid/Steven ( one of the staff). The folder was also the users name, so in this case Steven. Using the ReadyNas Remote app on their laptops they could see all the folders but only access their own via a user name and password. I also had 3 folders on there that only had access via my account and admin.
Now, when they log on they open the ReadyNas app, they put in their username and password which comes up invalid, the window underneath shows no devices online or no devices offline. the only way access at this time can be made is via MyNetgear with my credentials which gives them access to all 6 folders. I can now set up a share via the create a weblink but as far as I can see there is not an infinate number of access I can give them only a maximum of 1000 visits.
However, there seems to be a new issue. When I came in this morning, I have been unable to access the NAS internally via windows explorer. I can type in either \\192.168.3.103 of \\PCFIRSTAID (NASNAME) and I get access denied, but a mapping I did when the NAS was first set up still works to one of the folders I use.
Am I able to go back to the previous firmware on this NAS? Although not ideal, I can give access via the create a weblink and will have to keep renewing the share once 1000 visits have been made. Or simply swap the data to one of my existing NAS boxs and dispose of this 10 month old unit.
Coupled with an email that I have received from netgear tech support, if they do not hear from me in the next 3 days they will close the case, me calling them and now they are digging up an issue that was resolved last Sept in respect of the manufacture date and date of purchase, this firmware update and forced propgation to MyNetgear from ReadyCloud is making this unit unusable.
Sorry to rant at the end of this. This has been two weeks of agg and the powers that be who have manufactured this unit and forced changes are not willing to do anything.

Hopefully you can move on past the warranty verification quickly, and have them focussed on your issue.
