Unrecognized Channel

Bought a used RN516 off ebay with firmware 6.5.2. NAS came with 5 WD30EFRX-68AXNO HDs with firmware 80.00A80. NAS came with HDs in channels 1,2,3,5,6. I shuffled the HD's to Channels 1-5 (all Disk LEDs were blue) and reset to factory default. After the reset completed the NAS status was degraded, showing 8.17 TB free, and with no drive showing up in channel 4 (Disk LED still blue) on the NAS Admin page.. I pulled the HD out of channel 4 and inserted it into channel 6. The NAS re-synced and is showing 10.9 TB free. I am concerned that channel 4 is not functional though. Is there any way for me to verify this?

eBay seller must've known the RN516 was faulty, as he accepted a return even though the auction listed no returns...

    Thanks for the help.

That's probably why it ended up on eBay and the risk you take when you purchase from there, though the original purchaser could have got a warranty replacement rather than selling it there.

It is risky buying second hand.

The logs downloaded shortly after adding a disk to bay 4 would show if the system recognises the disk at all, but the information you've provided would suggest a faulty drive bay is likely.

      Understood about the used product.

Seller had 100% positive rating with 345 reviews. Appears trustworthy... I messaged him before I purchased it and he verified it was in perfect working condition. I went and looked through the logs and didn't see anything, but I may have deleted them. Can I just swap the drives again and it will produce the error log.

I just want to verify that there is indeed a drive bay failure before I contact the seller again.

      Thanks for helping...

What happens when the disk is added would likely show in kernel.log or systemd-journal.log. These logs are rotated over time.
