Updating to RAIDiator 4.2.19
Hello,
I have recently updated my OS X to Lion and I can no longer connect to my ReadyNas Pro using AFP. I have seen on the web that this problem can be solved by updating the firmware to version 4.2.19. However, if seen here http://www.readynas.com/?p=5812 the following warning
WARNING: If you update to 4.2.19, you will NOT be able to go back to 4.2.15 or earlier due to the automatic change in the partition format to support 3TB+ hard disks.
I wonder if this will impact the already stored data (i.e., will they be erased?) and if there are any other firmware versions supporting the AFP changes that allow Lion connectivity.
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe firmware update will leave your data intact. NetGear thoroughly tests firmware updates and they go through an extensive QA process before release. However due to the change in partition format updating from pre-4.2.16 firmware it is recommended to ensure your backup is up to date. If you primarily store important data on the ReadyNAS you should backup that data regularly. See Preventing Catastrophic Data Loss
Updating direct to 4.2.19 from 4.2.15 doesn't work. You'll need to update to 4.2.16 first. If you go to System > Update > Remote you'll find the 4.2.16 update is suggested for your system. After updating to 4.2.16 you can then update direct to 4.2.19.
4.2.20 beta obviously also supports Lion AFP clients, but I'd recommend updating to 4.2.19 and seeing how that goes for you. - runetAspirantThank you for the quick reply.
If I recall correctly my NAS firmware is 4.2.5 (I don't have access right now). I guess the update process is the same no matter the current version.
I have gone through the link you provided very fast and it seems to me that your recommendation it to store all the data in a external drive. However, I don't have enough space to keep all these data. Is it possible that updating to 4.2.19 leaves my data intact?

From 4.2.5 (not to be confused with 4.2.15) you can update direct to 4.2.19 and this will be indicated via System > Update > Remote. 4.2.5 (http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_x86_4_2_5_Notes) was released back in May 2009. It's very old firmware.runet wrote:

Yes my recommendation is that you should backup important data primarily stored on the ReadyNAS. Data stored on a single device is not backed up.runet wrote:

Yes it does, however it is recommended to ensure that your backup is up to date before any firmware update.
