Upgrade/Rebuild
Hi all
I currently have a Ultra6 and about to come into posession of a Pro6. My plan is to rebuild my current setup so I can get access to the extra drive space.
My current setup is RAIDiator 4.2.19
Disk 1 Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 1863 GB , 34 C / 93 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 WDC WD30EURS-63R8UY0 2794 GB , 37 C / 98 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 3 WDC WD30EURS-63R8UY0 2794 GB , 37 C / 98 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 4 Seagate ST32000542AS 1863 GB , 36 C / 96 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 5 WDC WD20EARS-00J2GB0 1863 GB , 40 C / 104 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 6 Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 1863 GB , 35 C / 95 F , Write-cache ON
currently i can only use 9545 GB and i keep getting the expansion failed message.
I use it to store photos or freinds and family, music, podcasts etc and to stream videos etc to PC's around the house.
My questions are as follow
Is the Pro6 or Ultra6 the better NAS for home use.
Do i need all the disks inserted when i rebuild so i can access the free space, and if i do will i loose the data?
Ideally id like to just copy everything off 2 the Pro rebuild the Ultra and then copy back but I only have the drives listed above and 1 spare 1TB drive.
Any tips, tricks or tools to make the process easier would be uber appreciated.

Pro 6. Faster than Ultra 6. Can do all Ultra 6 can plus more.Webby wrote:

Best to. Ideally fill the NAS with disks of the same size.Webby wrote:

A factory default wipes all data, settings, everything.Webby wrote:

Best solution would be to buy some new drives from the Hard Disk HCL
Put the 1TB drive in the Pro 6 and update it to the latest firmware via System > Update > Remote. May need to do this twice to get onto the latest firmware. Then power down put all disks you want to put in the Pro 6 and do a factory default (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu)
If you put four or more disks in the Pro 6, I recommend when you do the factory default you choose dual-redundancy. To do this: after initiating the factory default open RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads), a few checks will be run, then you can click setup, choose X-RAID2 and tick the dual-redundancy option. Confirm your choice.
I recommend you use the Pro 6 as your new main NAS and the Ultra 6 as your backup NAS. - Webby1AspirantCheers
Pro arrived today, chucked a drive in, factory reset now its hung
power on (even with reset button held and/or with drive removed) fans fire up, display reads ReadyNAS, no NIC activity, just sits there.
any idea's? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat do you see in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)?
Can you access the boot menu?: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu - Webby1Aspirant

Doesn't get that far, no NIC lights at all.
Can you access the boot menu?:
Nope held down 30-60seconds over a few attempts but nothing.
Same result when not pressing reset and also checked its not stuck in which it isn't. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat happens if you attempt to boot without the disk in the NAS?
- Webby1AspirantSame as with disk unfortunately
**thanks for the quick replies** - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI suggest you give tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) a call. You may need to return your unit to a reseller in exchange for another.
- Webby1AspirantUnit was purchased via online auction site.
Ill be email the seller to let him know what ive found. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf needed there are some additional things you could try.
Making sure the memory is properly seated is one thing. - Just a thought but it sounds like the RAM might have worked a little lose during shipping. I would try to reseat it on the motherboard and see if that makes any difference.
Edit: Just barely beat out! lol
