USB 3.0 external HD backwards compatible with v1 DUO?
I'm looking for a suitable 2TB external HD to use as a USB backup for our v1 Duo. On Amazon UK the Seagate STBV2000200 is the best-priced 2TB drive. It's USB 3.0, which is obviously not supported by the v1 for USB 3.0 speed, but would it work (with backwards compatibility to USB 2.0)? The two reasons for buying this model over a USB 2.0 external would be:
a) cost – it's a little cheaper
b) future-proofing – if we replace the v1 Duo at some point, it would likely be with a NAS with USB 3.0 ports
But, if it's unlikely to work due to an incompatibility with the particular chipset in the external HD then obviously it would be a better bet to get a USB 2.0 HD instead. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or sage advice in this regard. Many thanks if you do…
