Using a snapshot as backup source every night

OS is 6.4.2. Product is RN204.

I have an RN204 set to take hourly snapshots. Each night I would like to use the midnight snapshot as the source for a backup to a USB drive connected to a USB port on the RN204. Since the snapshot name is dependent on the day and time, and therefore changes from day to day, how do I setup a backup job that will run each night and use the latest midnight snapshot? Note that I want to use a snapshot as the data source so I get a consistent dataset.

Thanks

  • My understanding is that if the backup is run on the source NAS that the backup job itself will create the snapshot and back the snapshot up.

That is based on the following:

    backup faq wrote:

In this article, we create the backup job on MainNAS and push the data to BackupNAS using the Rsync protocol. Creating the backup job on MainNAS means that when the backup runs, a temporary snapshot will be taken of the source share, giving a consistent backup.

Though it would be useful if Netgear could confirm.

That's right StephenB. If you look at the backend you will see the temporary snapshot.

Then that accomplishes exactly what I want.

        Thanks for the clarification.
