/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 - what is it and why it takes so much space?

Question

Hello,&nbsp;In logs I found error message -&nbsp; System volume 'root' usage is 95%. i checked what takes most of available root space and found that "/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1" takes almost 3GB. what is it? can I remove it?&nbsp;&nbsp;I can add that I didn't install any application.&nbsp;&nbsp;Thank you in advance.

Mysql is the database program and ibdata1 is the primary storage location.&nbsp; It can be used by many applications, and one of yours has a lot of data.&nbsp; What apps are you running?&nbsp; I believe that some apps have the ability to move their databases off the system partition.

It doesn't even exist on any of my systems, so there is no system data stored there.

Maybe check the modification date on the file first, to make sure nothing is currently updating it.
&nbsp;
You probably also should check if mysql is still installed, and is so, uninstall it. &nbsp;It often is installed with php/phpadmin so check those too. &nbsp;Sometimes manually installed stuff breaks when firmware is updated (particularly if the kernel is updated). &nbsp;If you have the time, you could back up the data volume, do a factory reset, and rebuild it. Then you know you are starting clean.

stat&nbsp;/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1&nbsp;will give you the file dates.
which mysql should tell you if the server is installed.

If you didn't install any app then you would have MySQL installed and wouldn't have a MySQL database.

Thank you mdgm for reply but could you explain me a bit more what option do I have to recover at least some space?&nbsp;Excuse me but I don't have experience in this area :)
