/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 - what is it and why it takes so much space?

Hello,

In logs I found error message -  System volume 'root' usage is 95%. i checked what takes most of available root space and found that "/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1" takes almost 3GB. what is it? can I remove it?

I can add that I didn't install any application.

Thank you in advance.

If you didn't install any app then you would have MySQL installed and wouldn't have a MySQL database.

Thank you mdgm for reply but could you explain me a bit more what option do I have to recover at least some space?

Excuse me but I don't have experience in this area :)

Mysql is the database program and ibdata1 is the primary storage location.  It can be used by many applications, and one of yours has a lot of data.  What apps are you running?  I believe that some apps have the ability to move their databases off the system partition.
