Have to agree that netgear arn't making themselves any friends here, i really wish i'd gone with my initial choice and bought the synology diskstation, if there's no improvements soon i'll have no choice but to use the sales of goods act to claim it's a defective product at the point of sale, the box makes no mention of major problems when using vista.
I upgraded to windows 7 RC in the hope that this problem would be solved, however no luck whatsoever, i convinced my wife that it was £150 well spent yet now i have to face questions as to why she can't access photos without windows explorer crashing...
Anyway here's my answers:
0) Updated to Windows Vista SP1? SP1 contains a number of network changes that improved overall throughput with the ReadyNAS. yes, no change, went to windows 7, no change
1) Tried changing MTU on ReadyNAS and laptop to 1492? no change, also experienced bug where the box freezes when returning the MTU to 1500.
2) What model of Wireless Router and firmware is being used? Thompson TG585 v7
3) What Wireless Card model and firmware being used? EW-7711UAn
4) What connection speed are you seeing for Wireless Adapter (i.e. 54 Mbps)? 54Mbps
5) What's the connection speed between ReadyNAS to Router (10/100/1000 Mbps) -- you can see this in FrontView's Network page. 100Mbps
6) What's the throughput from Windows XP to ReadyNAS and Vista to ReadyNAS? Both Machines at or near same location? no XP machine, main box getting under 2Mbps
7) Whats the throughput from Windows XP to Vista? N/A
8) Does disabling firewall help? One user reported problem solved by disabling Symantec firewall. no
9) Does uninstalling anti-virus help? One user reported problem solved by uninstalling CA anti-virus. no
10) Does enabling jumbo frames work? Several folks reported problem solved by enabling jumbo frames, and this also had the effect of speeding up wired transfers. don't have jumbo frame compatable router
11) Are you able to try another router? A couple users reported replacing current router/switch solved the problem. can do but i'd rather not spend more unless i know it'll work
