All -
Just wanted to report that after hours of tinkering I finally resolved my vista wireless problems. I had the same issue as everyone else: wired performance is great, but the NAS is basically unusable over wireless.
Here is my setup -
O/S: Vista SP2
Wirelss Router: Linksys WRT54G (the linksys router everyone and their mother owns)
Router Firmware: Latest as of 9/7/2009
ReadyNAS Model: Duo
ReadyNAS Firmware: 4.6.1
Solution: Set MTU size to 1460 on ReadyNAS Duo.
Yo-dah suggested changing the MTU to that on another board because it turns off burst mode or something, which is the default on the duo and NV+. That appears to be the problem here as well. Note that I tried MTUs of 1492 everywhere (laptop, duo, router) and it didn't help. I also changed the throttling for multimedia packets (or whatever that setting is) and it did no good. So I returned everything to default and tried the last suggestion I could find -- MTU on the DUO to 1460. It did the trick.
So if you have a WRT54G and the duo is unusable (it was fine if I plugged my laptop into my router) try setting the DUO's MTU to 1460. I wanted to get it posted in this sticky forum item so hopefully people will be able to find it easily and try it!
Good luck!
