This tutorial fixed my problems. Set the MTU to 1430 on my Win7 laptop and get much better wireless performance to my ReadyNAS Duo. Left the MTU at 1500 on the ReadyNAS. I've gone from unusable to around 1MB/s transfer speeds for larger files, and video that is streaming perfectly.
Fantastic! Delighted with the find and the subsequent post from Dave / dbott67.
My two year old Buffalo Linkstation finally failed and I went in search of a replacement. I bought my ReadyNAS Duo 2 months ago and installed 2 * 1Tb drives from the approved compatible list. Initially I was very pleased, as things were working like a charm, hooked up to my Gigabit network, including a Netgear WNR854T router, a couple of Netgear GS105 switches and a GS108.
Then I tried to access the ReadyNAS from my Vista laptop. As others have reported, the data access times were chronic. I didn't bother running any timings as it was eminently clear that there was a serious fault. Wireless access from my XP laptop was good, so I tried two more Vista laptops (my kids) and a final laptop on which I've been running Windows 7 beta. With the exception of the XP laptop, each machine experienced serious performance issues retrieving a single photograph, an individual MP3 track or any simple file from the ReadyNAS.
Meanwhile I'd located this forum and this thread in particular. With other priorities, I'd put the wireless issues on the back burner, but occasionally dropped into the thread to see what new developments had arisen. I was delighted to read Dave's post, as none of the other things that I'd tried had any effect on the wireless performance. I carried out the intructions on my 1st Vista laptop and bingo! Everything worked properly. I went on to implement the changes in the two other Vista laptops and the Win7 laptop, successfully resolving the ReadyNAS performance issues with each one.
Much Kudos to the author for this fix.
