VMware and ISCSI Hosts

I created an ISCSI target to connect to four VM host machines, it connects to two of them fine, but when trying the connect to the other two hosts it sees the iscsi target in Static Discovery the but won't show up in the Adapter details window in VM Ware. I haven't enabled Access Control for this.

When I enable access control none of the hosts can see the target. I don't think I am configuring Access control in the proper way, is there a guide for this?

I am inserting the iscsi host name into the Access Control Initiator IQN is this correct?

The two hosts that are working are PowerEdge R805's
The two host not working are PowerEdge R715's
Firmware RAIDiator - 4.2.24

Shouldn't you be using multiple iSCSI targets on the NAS? iSCSI targets are designed to be used by one machine at a time and connecting from multiple machines can cause data corruption.

You might want to read up some more on VMWare to see how you should configure connecting multiple hosts to the one target for failover purposes (I assume that should be possible with the appropriate licence).

    See http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12267#iscsi

The iqn for your initiator should be shown in the vSphere client.
  • I do have multiple targets available but the first target is not showing up in the Configuration - Details windows in VMware,, the targets show up on the R805's but no the R715's
  • Hi leafan17, were you able to follow the steps at the KB site yet? How did this work out for you?
