6.5 adds WS-Discovery, so you might want to wait for that (or perhaps just try 6.5.0 RC2).
You can also add NAS shares as "network locations" to the main file explorer window, and then they should show up persistently. Right click in the "network locations" area and you should see an option to add a network location.
