It could be. Unfortunately there is no way to see if the OS is full w/o SSH. As it fills, the system often begins dropping off the network and becoming non-responsive. Eventually it stops responding at all. Often people wait until that happens before they report the problem here - making it harder to deal with.
But there are also other causes for these symptoms - failing hardware for instance.
If you don't have a current backup, I suggest the linux reader approach, just to make sure that you avoid data loss.
