NETGEAR is aware of a growing number of phone and online scams. To learn how to stay safe click here.
Two requests:
- Add an option to toggle whether the router advertises its own IP address as a DNS server. Advanced users don't need routerlogin.net.
- Allow a private IP address to be specified as a DNS server. This currently doesn't work because the DNS relay occurs after NAT. A user has to disable the DHCP server on the router in order to use their own DNS server.

RAX42 - Add an option to toggle whether the router advertises its own IP address as a DNS server. Heck, it's available on my cable company's junky Hitron modem/router, should certainly be easy enough for Netgear to implement.

I use a dns filter app that’s running on my Synology server. Edit the router’s dns settings to point to the desired dns target. It creates a bit of additional traffic but it’s minimal.

I've given up this router ever working as I would expect and moved on. Bye NetGear!

Thank you for your suggestions regarding DNS support. We value your input on toggling router DNS advertisements and specifying private IP addresses. We'll explore these options for future updates.

I've been part of this thread for years, and I've been waiting for some official comment. I have no idea if arai-dreamer is a netgear employee, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they are representing netgear. But aria-dreamer, let me translate what your message means to your community:
3/28/2016 - Please helps us. We've identified a HUGE flaw in your software logic that only impacts some users, but the ones that it does impact are completely down due to the flaw. As a community, we've spent the time researching the problem and have good understanding of whats happening. Here are our results; please get this bug to your developers asap so we can continue to use netgear products.
8/23/2023 - We'll think about it.My router was still under warrantee when this happeend and support wouldn't even talk to me about it. I, like many others, have long given up on the device with the problems. The bad part for netgear, we all know that this code is baked into the foundation of your product, and you're marketing pro/consumer devices that can't do basic things because of a stupid deisgn decision. Not only have we bailed on the device, (and I'm really speaking for myself, but others witll probably confirm) I gave up on the brand. I'd love to go back, so if anyone ever actually confirms this is fixed, I'd consider it, but at almost 8 years to get a "We'll think about it"... thats not going to buy my loalty back!

Chir should look at the icon beside the aria-dreamer tag.
All Netgear employees have a "Netgear" logo by their tags. So, there is no doubt that their comments do not represent Netgear. - nancyjayAspirant
I'd like to request enhanced DNS features for NG routers, specifically offering users more control over DNS settings, including the ability to manage DNS relay functionality. Enabling users to toggle DNS relay on or off would be particularly beneficial. Many routers from other brands already offer this capability, and incorporating this feature into NG routers would be greatly appreciated. This enhancement would empower users to have more flexibility and control over their DNS settings, contributing to a more versatile and customizable networking experience. Thank you for considering this improvement.

Will be moving off Netgear in the future after seeing how long this has been ignored. The upvote feature has the confirmed the conclusion that we are not many, and we are not their target market.

Best if you don't find what NG offers. NG drives the bus. Can get off if it's not to your liking.
