NETGEAR is aware of a growing number of phone and online scams. To learn how to stay safe click here.
Two requests:
- Add an option to toggle whether the router advertises its own IP address as a DNS server. Advanced users don't need routerlogin.net.
- Allow a private IP address to be specified as a DNS server. This currently doesn't work because the DNS relay occurs after NAT. A user has to disable the DHCP server on the router in order to use their own DNS server.

I just found out that my Netgear router advertises its own DNS server over the ones specified in config. Browsed the entire internet, talked to some people. Nothing.
Finally got to this thread.
5 years? Great job, Netgear. Where do I return your halfbaked product?

Should I wait for this or is it time to try other manufacturer's product?

Yes, I Know this is from 2016. Enough time to make this to happen? Few more years to do this? Not going to happen? I don't know. Please, tell me.

Never going to happen in Orbi. MAYBE in a new/future Nighthawk series. But NOT something that 99% of Orbi buyers would do/use/care/understand.

Kind of sums it up. People who need that sort of feature have other ways of going about it and the technical expertise needed to make it happen.

Yes, this is an old thread. Yes, Netgear sucks for not fixing this. Yes, there are ways to work around it.
But... I tried to use several alt-firmwares for my R6400v2. One of them works fine, but is a bit unstable. I can't use a device that freezes a few times per month, especially when I'm outside. Currently using external DNS provider.
So, unless there is a general solution to this, it's still good to dicsuss it.

I agree as well, I have a RAX43 and I want to control DNS for my devices at home through HDCP to make sure they do not receive the advertisements while surfing the internet. Very distracting! I setup a Pihole device that works very well to block the advertisements. Please make that possible.

There may be such adapter and exactly it's far referred to as "Netgear On Networks N300MA-199EES". But it's so vintage (WinXP technology) that I'm surprised it even labored on home windows 10. You honestly have to shop for something more moderen as it was a miracle that it worked to choose the anchor.

I finally gave up and bought a new router. No more Netgear for me. I will no longer recommend Netgear products for the absolute lack of support.
