NETGEAR is aware of a growing number of phone and online scams. To learn how to stay safe click here.
Two requests:
- Add an option to toggle whether the router advertises its own IP address as a DNS server. Advanced users don't need routerlogin.net.
- Allow a private IP address to be specified as a DNS server. This currently doesn't work because the DNS relay occurs after NAT. A user has to disable the DHCP server on the router in order to use their own DNS server.

+1, a router advertised as 'advanced' should have more customizable features.

I absolutely regret the day I paid £149 for a netgear router. Never again.

For the love of God!
Please make an advanced DHCP Server setting to allow me to pass whatever DNS servers I want to my clients!
Please I'll even say I like Tom Brady and the Patriots, (well maybe not) but whatever it takes. This has to be done....
R7000 owner here.
2 and a halv years have passed and Netgear has done NOTHING to answer us about this important function. This is present in most of the routers from the competition.
Not having this simple function in the router means that I have to manually configure the DNS settings in ALL my clients so that they bypass the router instead of querying the router directly for DNS requests.
Unbelievable that Netgear doesn't want to listen to its customers.
(they changed the status of this thread to "reviewed" an eternity ago but who knows what does that mean?

Not having this option anymore (it used to be available) is a reason to switch to a different router.
Bye bye netgear!

Here's a workaround:
Under 'Internet Settings' change the DNS servers from 'Get Automatically from ISP' to 'Use These DNS Servers' where you can specify a primary and secondary DNS server.
These DNS servers will be included in the DHCP request replies to connected clients.
Still, one would expect these settings under 'Advanced' > 'Setup' > 'LAN Setup' > 'Use Router as DHCP Server'

That's the correct place for the ISP or manual assigned DNS IP addresses for the router or system usage.

This would be a dedicated (optional) control, allowing to set again diferent DNS IP for the DHCP server issued configs.
- ether-yes-or-noFledglingAgree! LAN setup should include an option for a LAN DNS address; not defaulting (via relay) to the WAN DNS.
Agree! Please, provides it.
- lolcocksAspirantOh my God, how is this feature not available? It's causing me DNS issues I think. I need to manually assign DNS everything. My 10 year old router has this feature and how does Netgear does not have this feature?
