There really needs to be a way to adjust the time-out for the admin web page. It is a real pain to have to keep reentering the password. The max time-out should appropriately be limited, to say 10 mins, but it would really help to have some control over the time-out.

This is driving me nuts. I just got an Orbi, so I am sitting in the Admin tool running through all settings, reading forums on how people set up different things based on certain needs etc and every time I go back to look at the setting I have to log in again. Ahhhhhhh

Yes, you put your finger on it exactly. Often if I'm not sure how to configure a setting I'll leave the admin panel open while I research something. On returning to the admin, it has timed out.
I understand the need for a time out, but really, Netgear needs to give users some control.

Here is the problem I see with having a timeoute so fast. First people are going to either have an easy password that they can type really fast because they have to type it so much, or defeat it altogether by having the browser save the password, and just click the login. That defeats the whole purpose.
I have a nighthawk, and I am struggling getting a wifi printer online, and I need to make changes in the admin page then go test the printer, but by the time the printer fails to connect, I am already logged out of the admin page. It makes testing so frustrating. So what do I do? I have the browser save the password, so now if anybody gets a hold of my laptop, they can just log in to my router? How is that safer? but what if I was able to change the timeout to 5 minutes, or 10 minutes even, so I can do some testing on my network? Or even shut the timeout off completely for the testing phase? But really, It is not like netgear is the only game in town. If this doesn't get fixed, I am going to buy different brand, this is a deal breaker. I need to be able to configure my own security as we see fit.
I wonder if the people at Netgear eat their own dog food? Because I can't think of a scenario where anybody would be happy about this. I am officially entering my vote for an adjustable timeout. You can make the default 10 seconds or whatever it is, but please give the people that want the ability to change it the ability to change it. That way if people don't care or don't know how it will default to the quick timeout, but for the techies let us have some security control.
Cheers,
AC
- rChazNoviceThe VERY rapid timeout is INSANE for a home router!! How hard is it to make this configurable? This does NOT make the router safer, but rather it makes it LESS safe because I'm incented to make a short easy-to-enter password if I'm going to have to enter it over & over & over & over again whenever I have to configure the router for ANYTHING! LUDICROUS and FRUSTRATING and user-HOSTILE and all else being equal, it would send me to a different vendor for my next gear!
- rChazNoviceExamples of this infuriating design (Nighthawk AC2300 router). If you change settings that take an extended time to enter & press "Apply", because of the rapid timeout it prompts for a login & all your updates are wiped out after logging back on. Often, after all the re-logging back in, I'm prompted that there are multiple connections & then it asks if I want to log the other connection(s) out. After a time out (never any indication in advance that you're timed-out), if you press log out it prompts you to log in and then logs out!? Or if you cancel trying to login, it beats you over the head to try to do a reset forgotten password routine! Design lunacy! Even worse, you have to reboot the router after most configuration changes - why not just set the router "state" to "requires a reboot to take effect", so that all updates can be performed in a single, or at least fewer, restart(s). Again, user-hostile.

Yes Netgear, add an option to adjust the session timeout for the router admin interface. It is way too quick as configured.

This is strange. I have seen no sign of being kicked off the router admin interface prematurely, and I can sit in there for quite some time. The only time I get asked to login again is after a period of inactivity. Is that the issue?
I wonder if it depends on the model involved and/or the way people approach it. Or even the browser.
By the way there is no "AC2300 router" (see rChaz above). Just a couple of routers with that wifi specification. R7000P and R400. SAnd my R7000P does not kick me off.

I have a model RAX78 router, and I get logged out after 5 minutes of being idle.
