Allow setting of DNS search domain

I have an Orbi RBR350

but I assume this will apply to others as well.

I can set the DNS server to our local DNS server but I cannot set the search domain.

As it therefore doesn't tell clients the search domain, I need to configure them all manually.

Hopefully a future firmware upgrade could introduce this feature.

Not something that is needed on home class routers. You might find this on NG Pro series.

  • Thanks FURRYe38,

Your comment sounds to me a bit like "640K ought to be enough for anybody."

Why allow delegation at all if not done properly?

This router was given to me by my ISP. I don't think these days I'm alone with having over a dozen clients in the house.

If it's given to you by the ISP, some ISP do there own FW development using NG HW, Thus NG doesn't develop the FW used with ISP developed HW. Something to contact the ISP about. I also have a dozen clients on my network. Have never had the need for DNS search domain requirements or processes. All works as expected and designed. If you need that feature, something to check with Pro versions then.

  • Unfortunately my ISP referred me to NG.

I admit for most clients it's a one-off configuration where I can just spell out the full FQDN, for example telling Kodi where the NAS is, or the printer where the SMTP server is. It's just something I was used to from my old NetComm NF18ACV (from the previous ISP - same target group), I was surprised by a newer router having fewer features.
