DHCP reservation list sort by IP

Provide a way to sort the DHCP reservation list by different fields (IP address). The way it shows up for me is based on when the entry was added. It would be more usefull if I could sort it by IP address.

I listed RAX80, but other routers would benefit from this also.

  • This is an excellent suggestion and a necessary feature in a modern router (my Apple router from 2012 sorts by IP). Address management is key to network security and reliability, having to scroll through dozens of addresses in random order looking for a specific address is time consuming and easy to miss. If need be, allow the DHCP reservation list to be exported in order (or sorted externally by the user), cleared, and then reimported, putting it back in order.

Also reordering the list when a MAC address is edited is rediculous and compounds the problem. At least if you kept the list in the order it was entered, we could assign all the addresses up front (in IP order) using dummy MAC addresses, then later we could edit the MAC address and still have the list in order. You need some network administrators on the design team. Thanks.

  • I ended up removing all reservations from the RAX and setting up a raspberry pi running dnsmasq because it was easier to maintain.

In doing that, I found a simple way to sort lists in a html page. Maybe the sorting info will help if you decide to implement it in the router.

    How to sort a table

  • I returned the Netgear because if this lack of, unfortunate because it’s maximum DHCP reservations was the best I’ve found.

I also tried a Linksys AX6000 which allowed you to make dummy entries in order, and then edit to the correct MAC and description as needed (it doesn’t reorder when you edit), his strategy works for me as in the end it’s sorted by IP. It however had an anemic number of reservations, after their tech support told me it was only limited by memory, it topped out at 32.

    Still looking.

  • I have the Netgear R7000P - Nighthawk AC2300.

I'm very sorry to see that this issue has been open for 15+ months.

Sorting by all columns is available on:

Advanced > Administration > Attached Devices

Advanced > Security > Access Control

But not on Advanced > Setup > LAN Setup.

This seems like an oversite and should be very easy to fix and push out an update.

  • Really because of this missing feature I sold all my Netgear and put in a Ubiquiti/Unifi based network, their 'Controller' management software (hosted on the Dream Machine router in my case) is the most comprehensive I've seen in home / office networking. More expensive than Netgear, but well built and all products -- router, WiFi, switches, AP's -- managed from a single console. I still like Netgear, but need these basic features.
