Easy migration to new routers

I think it would be a good idea to have a built in migration assistant for moving to newer netgear routers.  For instance.  I have the AC1700 (I believe) router, and just moved to the newer Nighthawk X4S.  It would be nice to either have the ability to upload the previous routers config file to the new router.  Or, join the new router to the network, and have it mirror the settings from the old router.  Then suggest what to do with the old router, i.e (bridge it, make it an access point, or wipe it and reset it).  Just as an example.

Also, I have the netgear AC1200 extender.  Instead of having two separte control screens to manage these devices.  It would be nice if they integrated on one screen.  Maybe show a heat map of how far apart they should be from each other to get optimal signal.  What data rates they are getting from each other.

Basically, there shoudl be MUCH more integration within netgears products.  I think it wil make it much better than it is now.

  • I agree with the basic sentiment here, in that migrating from on generation of router to another, and as guy working in IT, I know that if you provide a migration technique to assist in staying with the same vendor then this is a strong selling point. Apart from moving across the settings, there is the issue that it is often the case that the simplest method involves having both routers active at some so point so that there is no interruption to services while you get the new router sorted out, and you can migrate one client device at a time if necessary.
