Please implement the OpenVPN client in Orbi. I would like to use a VPN connection without having to configure a VPN client on every device. There are multiple devices that benefit from a VPN but do not have VPN capabilities themselves, such as game consoles (Xbox, Playstation) and smart tvs (e.g. Roku, LG webOS).
The OpenVPN client feature has been added to XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming Router and for PureVPN on Nighthawk X4S in R7800 Firmware Version 1.0.2.46. OpenVPN client support would be preferable, as I use a VPN that is not PureVPN. Please add the OpenVPN client support to Orbi too.

As a remote/distributed/virtual worker, I am required to use a VPN for all corp network access with several devices, so that I maintain secure internet access.
I prefer not to have to use a local OpenVPN client on each device, and would prefer to configure this at the router. It would be ideal if I could only route corp through VPN.
As a private citizen, I prefer to use a VPN for most if not all of my personal internet access, so that I can insure some degree of privacy.
If would be ideal if I could configure one or more OpenVPN client routes, one serving corp business needs and another for personal traffic.
PS: I am a professional enterprise software product manager, hence the canonical stories.

Please implement the VPN client in Orbi. I would like to have my whole home connected to privacy VPN 24/7. This is a must feature in 2019.

I would really benefit from an OpenVpn clent on the router. Having to manage all the various devices individually is a pain in the neck, especially as this feature is available on my 5 year old router I got the Orbi to replace.

Guess I should have looked in to it more before buying, I assumed it would have a VPN client!!

+1 from me too. Any updates on when will Orbi be getting the VPN client pls?
- ztekdesignAspirantAny update to this being done? It's very big deal not to have this for the average consumer. Most people work from home these days and require this already in the Router. I'm thinking about boxing up my Orbi system and sending it back. There are other systems out there that offer this already in the software.

It seems to be far past the time for asking politely, quietly wringing hands and hoping this will happen as if by the magic software fairy. This issue also affects far more than just the Orbi product line.
The Nighthawk AX (RAX40, RAX80, RAX120, RAX200) all seem to indicate a very clear pattern of behavior of advertising VPN and failing to deliver. In fact, one gets the distinct impression that Netgear is receiving kickbacks from PureVPN and has no intention whatsoever to accomodate this request.
Furthermore, Netgear will explicitly void the product warranty if any open source firmware is placed upon the router to enable this functionality. That in itself may be illegal in the US and Europe (where such things as using custom firmware are specifically protected by laws and policies of the EU).
As so many users have pointed out, VPN is a common expectation if not requirement for the daily personal and professional lives of the ordinary citizen comprising the user base.
Using Netgear's market position to force anti competitive behavior and a lack of choice upon their customers is not somethong to take lightly or dismiss.
Perhaps Netgear needs a class action lawsuit for false advertising of VPN support and maybe even an antitrust or fraud investigation would not hurt either. I think it is time to file complaints with the FTC to let them know about Netgear's despicable behavior in this regard.
Netgear, you make some very decent hardware these past few years, and that is great. But you need to not only listen to your customers but take action and deliver what the customers want. You only hurt yourselves by failing to deliver what the competition is already eager and capable of delivering.
Finally, I do not think that this is a case of Netgear's technical incompetence to deliver such a presumably "difficult" feature, (as I am sure some executive will use as an excuse that it is too difficult or unreasonable). The software is already largely written by others (OpenVPN Community edition is free and open source software hence the Open in the name) and equivalent functionality has been added to routers by MANY others for OVER A DECADE (DD-WRT, HyperWRT, OpenWRT, Tomato, ASUS' version of Tomato, etc). So any such nonsensical excuse about it being too difficult or unreasonable simply will not fly here.
It seems more like willful inaction due to faulty business decisions among the incompetent leadership.
