LAN config and QoS

The LAN config and QoS are really crappy on Nighthawk routers.

Those feature are really too primitives and should be reworked completely. The issue is that even low priority devices are sucking and draining all the bandwidth.

Features redesign:

  1. LAN config, by type and sorted by type too, NAS with NAS, wired, laptops, IoT, phones, tablets, and surveillance.
  2. Really assign bandwidth with priority
  3. Add at least 2 or 3 ladders to the QoS
  4. Assign QoS by types of devices NAS and wired the highest and guests the crumbs!
  5. Refine those features by router, R7000 have the basic and R8500 the finest tune up
  6. Allow users admins to tune up deeply the things
  7. An integrated Firewall in the module allowing TOR features and deep security features.
  8. A real print server in the process

A lot of complains in the community have been made it is time from the high above to shake the coconut tree and arrange that mess!

Thank you for your feedback. Let me forward this to the management for further review.

Thank you again and have a great day!

  • I am insisting but for Nighthawk router it is a moral obligation to deliver such feature available. on a R8500 we send between 400-500$ so yes shake the coconut tree!

  • The new FW did not solved the issue still "crappy" way to sort thing and to tune up the device!

  • I would think a qos based on choices made by  the person setting up the router would b better were gaming, nas and so on are assign a rating of importance by the person setting up the router on own needs. A few firmware update could install the new qos map but I see netgear users  seeing a issue after the update who use qos on their routers.

Almost all Nighthawk routers support Dynamic QoS function - it's one click enable, run the speed test, and the QoS does the rest for you: It detects the device type, application types, and even type of streaming and allocates bandwidth for the Internet automatically so a user doesn't have to do it. As the devices come online or go offline, or as someone starts streaming or gaming, the QoS algorithm will take care of it. Please see https://kb.netgear.com/25617/How-does-Dynamic-QoS-help-improve-my-Nighthawk-router-s-Internet-traffic-management.

  • Nice the way it sounds like it works on paper the real world usage of it will tell the truth.

Sorry if I sound like I do not believe but have seen new features fell short.

  • This feature does not work at all, I have a strong Apple allergy so all apple products get a low priority on the router (my house my rules) and even in that case those products are sucking all the bandwidth. So for me the status should be not resolved this is an unfinished business!!
