Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.

Ethernet connection between router & satellite is defintely needed. Too often the internet connection is in the basement and you need to place the satilight on the third floor without having to sacrifice performance. This is almost the perfect solution if your internet connection is already on the third floor.

with the number of Ethernet ports on the orbi wired backhaul would make it hands down the best wireless mesh product. Unfortunately i'm not buying until this feature is added - CorivalAspirant
+1 for a wired connection between Satelite and Router. I'm planning of replacing my current wifi network in my house. I already have a cat5e connection between first and 2nd floor. Wireless and heavy ferroconcrete are not a good combination...
if wired backhaul will be supported I will choose the Orbi system

First you need to see a need for it may be in the works under another model number how knows they have the interner port and lan ports on the base station but only lan ports on the satelitte on this serials. The next serials may have a backhaul and maybe some of the other features asked for. They could build the voice command right in to the router so only one device instead of two. Just have to look at new routers they are putting out now and you may get a idea of what is coming for the future Orbi.

+1 for wired backhaul. For such an expensive system and it is after all, one of the top units on the market, it should get a wired backhaul fix. For future proofing, just in case teh radios weaken or die, wired backhauling should be a no brainer.

Ethernet connection between router & satellite is defintely needed. Looking forward for the day it is enabled.
but the orbi is what it is and you buy it for now not to future proof
i will be quite interested to see how long this thread goes as its been almost a year including beta testing and all that time ethernet has been requested without any acknowledgement of if or when it will ever be done
i acknowledge that it would be nice to have but i wouldnt be holding your breath

Hi,
A see alot of comments that "Orbi is not marketed as a Ethernet Backhaul product" & "do your research before buying and don't expect ethernet backhaul".
Well, from another point of view.
Even though the wireless backhaul is good and works fine our living situation could change. You maybe move to another house, rebuild the one you currently have or do some other renovation.
Now this is where the wired backhaul comes in. If I move to another house that's different to the one I currently have I maybe end up needing wired backhaul. Now that would be a total waste of money to buy another WiFi solution just for that.
So even I you don't need wired backhaul today, maybe you will need it in the future and you don't want to spend another 500USD on another WiFi solution when you already have Orbi.

For some a easy and reasonable idea too others a nonsense idea as work's just fine now the problem is showing every one the need for wired backhaul. On paper both sides see that are right and the other is wrong with a forest of on lookers who are powerless to help in either direction as no ones is listening to the other side sound's much the world we live today doesn't it.

It totally baffles me that Orbi with a Qualcomm IPQ4019 a 720Mhz Quad core Processor, paired with 512Mb of RAM and 4Gb of flash memory and a wired backhaul can't be added via Firmware so much horse power not utilized.
