Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.

If every competition is offering it with lower hw specs than Orbi why can't Orbi offer it?

Like petey said, it is not something competitors have an advantage by having. Because anyone who did their research would know if they needed ethernet backhaul they did not need a eero, onhub, orbi etc... They would have known to buy a decent AP and not one of these consumer mesh products (not knocking these products but that is not what they are designed for, there are better options for that).
Where orbi excels is right where it needs to excel, namely with its wifi backhaul. This is the niche these products fill, not the I already have cat drops everywhere niche.
If you really have cat drops and the need for ethernet backhaul do yourself a favor and go look at some decent APs from somebody and not one of these mesh systems, and get what you need.
- ForsthofGuideI am happy with a wifi backhaul but as you can tell from others - it's something that is required for them and competitors provide it. So if netgear is happy missing those customers - fine but the product will not be as successful. You cannot force solutions - the users will define what is required.
sorry but its nether less comptitive as its trounces all other mesh systems throughput wise and its not a significant draw back ether as its advertised as using wifi backhaul and it does that great , other mes systems need ethernet backhaul because the hop throughput is poor , however expectations of some that presumed it has ethernet backhaul just show how little homework or comparison they did before purchasing
- ForsthofGuideTo be competitive - Ethernet backhaul is required.

This is a significant drawback for the old brick building we have. Please add the wired satellite ASAP!

If you add a wired backhaul to this router (especially with your competitors offering this feature in many cases already), I can see it easily becoming a go to solution for covering most homes. The connection speeds of the Orbi are great (and seem to be better than most of the competition) but there are some areas that due to blockage, interference, or simply distance, that having a wired connection option for the satellites would just make sense.
- HirrdgoonApprenticeWired Ethernet seems to be one of the most wanted features from owners themselves on this form. This should be way up their to do list.
Anyway, ended up returning the orbi due to no WIRED backhaul. I hope they add it in for you guys down the road. I would have kept it if it had this feature.
Building out a Ubiquity Unify network instead - iHeijoushinInitiateEthernet backhaul for Orbi is exactly what I'm waiting for. I currently use two Netgear routers with the second in AP mode and the switchover is flakey in areas where the two devices overlap. I would buy an Orbi in a heartbeat if it allowed me to use the Ethernet I have installed already in my home to connect the two units. Please Netgear, add this essential feature!

+1 For Ethernet Backhaul, please Netgear make it happen.
I don't understand the limitation. My house is wired and having one SSID with such performance would be a plus. However, without the wire my satellite is not getting more than 200 Mbps due to the distance.
I returned an ASUS5300 + RT-AC68U (Router+AP) just to skip the disconnection when roaming from one to anotherone. I had the same SSID and still found the mesh idea worth a try.
I got shocked to see you cannot use the ethernet for backhauling.
Please make it happen :-)
