Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.

- HirrdgoonApprenticeUnfortunately in my neck of the woods the AC68 U is $200 to buy so $400 for the two.
The orbi is more attractive with its seamless handoff.
But yes, no wired backhaul which is a mistake by Netgear, hence why were asking for it here. but the orbi would cost you $699 right
orbi is no more seamless than any other ap system with the same ssid names
roaming is a client device decision at this stage no matter what system you use
the decision initially by netgear to not include ethernet backhaul was not a mistake , it was how the orbi was designed its that simple
if and i do mean if the orbi does get ethernet backhaul it will be a bonus and will at least shut up those complaining it hasnt got it even though it never claimed it had and most of those that purchased it without first doing their homework some how expected it

Youtube shows one internet port and three lan on the base with a usb 2 port and the four lan ports plus a usb 2 port on the Satlite in their Orbi reviews not sure if anything changed on the Orbi since the videos were made.
Even if they do a wired backhaul the cost and the users needs may not be a match.
the usb ports still dont work and never have
you are correct there are 4 ethernet ports on the sats which one could be converted to backhaul but iot means redesigning how the orbi functions and i guess what is causing the slowness in seeing anything done
and yes i agree you can get far cheaper solutions with all wireless ethernet connected ap's or the like

Wired backhaul is being offered by every single competition, why Netgear is ignoring such a critical feature completely baffles me. orbi is a powerful machine and needs to be anything offer as many versatile features as possible such as wired backhaul to stay ahead of the competition.

they are not ignoring it but it sure aint critical , the orbi is a whole home WIFI solution , designed for those that cant , its that simple

I do not want to get rid of Orbi but I need the wired backhaul flexibility which means get rid of Orbi and buy competitors solution? why I want to keep Orbi it is a powerful machine and would rather see wired backhaul added than us getting rid of it. many are requesting this feature and many are buying something else because of lack of this flexibility.

Wouldn't a firmware update make the lan ports on back of the base and satellite solve the problem as far as the backhaul goes?
i dont think its as simple as that or it would have already been done , its another level of complexibility to have the backhaul work with or without the ethernet and making choices based on load etc , if you just want the orbi sat converted to AP's sure thats prob easy but in reality not what the orbi system is about

From what I have seen on videos from youtube and other reviews none of the mesh type wireless based are truly not ready in their true form they are all beta's. With little control over them to not enough features to do the job of a true mesh system.
