Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.

yup your pretty much spot on , the mesh world spewed onto the market in a huge hurry and as a result many half cocked devices where seen as a result
im sure in the coming months we will see them improve ( including the orbi ) but many will fail to reach full potential as there just isnt the market for so many to compete in

I have eero, luma, velop, google mesh, and orbi. Would love to know what you guys are talking about re: half baked and beta? Eero has been out for a year and is pretty stable with lots of great features including wired backhaul. Google is not far behind. If anything the old guard networking companies like Linksys with Velop and Netgear with Orbi are the ones that are what I would call, "a little rough around the edges"
Both Velop and Orbi seem to have the most powerful hardware out there but are hampered by poor firmware/software implementations.

ORBI is using a Qualcomm IPQ4019 which is a 720Mhz Quad core Processor!! Paired with 512Mb of RAM and 4Gb of flash and a wired backhaul can't be added via Firmware??? Seriously?? not even offer wired backhaul in AP mode? Seems a massive waste of a powerful machine limiting it's potential because of poor Firmware features.

This need to be added, like yesterday.
Just bought this setup and I have a poolhouse about 20m from my house that has wired connection.
My fault though, I bought it before I looked it up but I thought it's obvious that it should work.
Get your coders working Netgear!
Push for wired backhaul !! The wireless backhaul works very well but I have a wired house so I would appreciate this feature for even more power :)
- onezerosix141Aspiranti was hoping wired backhaul was added by the recent update :( i really hope this gets added.

Hopefully they are seriously considering adding it via a Firmware release as it is one of the most requested feature right now.

I could get rid of two switches if orbi had a wired ethernet backhaul it would be ideal for my setup.

+1 For Ethernet Backhaul, please Netgear make it happen.
I don't understand the limitation. My house is wired and having one SSID with such performance would be a plus. However, without the wire my satellite is not getting more than 200 Mbps due to the distance.
I returned an ASUS5300 + RT-AC68U (Router+AP) just to skip the disconnection when roaming from one to anotherone. I had the same SSID and still found the mesh idea worth a try.
I got shocked to see you cannot use the ethernet for backhauling.
Please make it happen :-) - iHeijoushinInitiateEthernet backhaul for Orbi is exactly what I'm waiting for. I currently use two Netgear routers with the second in AP mode and the switchover is flakey in areas where the two devices overlap. I would buy an Orbi in a heartbeat if it allowed me to use the Ethernet I have installed already in my home to connect the two units. Please Netgear, add this essential feature!
