Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 system needs separate 2.4 and 5.0 SSID
Would like to buy Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 system but I'm afraid it will not fit my needs.
My new DVR TiVo Bold+ can connect via either 2.4 or 5.0. Of course, download speed is far better at 5 Ghz.
Unfortunately, Linux on TiVo Bold refused to connect to 5.0 Band of my Google WiFi mesh and stayed connected to 2.4.
I had to return this mesh and to go back to my old faithful router that have different SSID for each band.
I'm sure the same may happen to any Linux based device in future, not only to old IoT devices.
Read the multiple forums dedicated to any mesh system and you'll see how much grief this unseparable Smart Connect caused to some people.
Their grief is a manufacturer's lost business, remember this.
My idea is to give user of Nighthawk MR60 Mesh WiFi 6 system option (just a secondary option, not immediately visible at first glance) to select different SSID for 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands.

Just wanted to remind the honorable SuperUser and Guru that one reputable company recently decided to respect the "old old story, and an ancient idea" about separate SSID. Just go to the link:
https://www.asus.com/Networking-IoT-Servers/Whole-Home-Mesh-WiFi-System/ZenWiFi-WiFi-Systems/ASUS-ZenWiFi-AX-XT8-/
and search for the term "name" because Asus decided not to scare away ingenuous customers by incomprehensible abbreviation and just allows to assign separate name to each of available bands.

I would like to see this enabled as well. There was a commandline work around for the Orbi system to accomplish this.
The problem I am having is my Oculus Quest flips out after a bit of time and loses the WiFi connection. It's something to do with it momentarily seeing the 2.4 connection as better and attempting to switch. The switch fails and the Quest disconnects. I can sometimes reconnect right away. Sometimes I need to forget the connection and re-enter the password. It's a known issue with the Quest, but Oculus seems disinclined to fix it. When I split the 2.4 and 5 networks on my Orbi the Quest worked great. I need the added WiFi bandwith of the Mesh 6, though.

Wow! Our discussion here was noted by Netgear and Nighthawk Tri-band Mesh WiFi 6 system now (as of May 1st, 2021) has option of setting separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands (https://kb.netgear.com/000063027/Can-I-create-separate-2-4GHz-and-5GHz-SSIDs-on-my-Nighthawk-Tri-band-Mesh-WiFi-6-products)

Great to see this change eventually happen! I can only imagine how this difference with Orbi firmware likely caused more complexity keeping this functionality separate between these models...

Wow! They finally allowed separate SSID for the different bands after years and years of asking, BUT only on the tri-band, not the dual-band like the MK63 which I really wanted to like and keep! I live in the US, and I like to support US companies if I can, but the fact that I cannot split the SSIDs was (still is) a major reason I just decided to go with the Asus XD4 Minis. This has nothing to do with not knowing how to connect IoT or other devices rather it's about ENSURING my devices connect to the bands I want them to. Another reason I decided to go with Asus was the ability to adjust settings such as LED light, force a device to bind to one device, and the app actually works even with the system in Access Point mode.

Definitely needed on MR60 either split SSID for 2.4 and 5 Ghz or allow 5ghz to be switched off. Come on Netgear I'm telling my friends and colleagues to use other Routers and expanders that allow the feature.
Otherwise it would be a very good product that I would be happy to recommend.
Surely cannot be that difficult to issue an update!
