NETGEAR is aware of a growing number of phone and online scams. To learn how to stay safe click here.
So, Nighthawk developers, a suggestion:
- Have an independent thread in the firmware, simple, clean, with a UDP socket open, that can dump router diagnostics to Genie, Up, other tool. Do NOT Use HTTP, AJAX, etc.
- Would be highly useful if Admin console unresponsive, a router hang that affected function, but left the router running and semi-functional.
- Could dump router config, transceiver status, BSSIDs, any critical data.

We have implemented router analytics to do similar functionality to help us monitor the product quality and focus our efforts on most commonly found issues.
AbhayB How can we router owners ( more than $250 spent on this router) access the added functionality (or something different) to use for troubleshoting our own router behaviour and help diagnose problems in our own networks - which to me is the root of this question (and thus not solved :) ? I have been trying to use the built in tools (in Genie and the web interface) to help diagnose a network isse and the current user space tools are of little help. For example, the current tools do not report which physical port a device is connected to - they do not report why (according to TCP standards) an IP address was issued at a particular time, and fail to provide many many other common sense diagnostic data are completely missing from current router user interface (as of version 1.0.2.36). This router - when set to send the log file every 24 hours, fails to send the whole file.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
- TonkiniteLuminaryIn lieu of anything else, additional diagnostic log messages regarding DHCP and other issues would be quite helpful. My Roku Ultra(s), despite having fixed IP assignment show DHCP messages every 5 minutes or so when the lease interval is 24 hours (main 24 hours, guest 30 minutes, based on my use of Wireshark). For the sake of others, the log mail out interval can be set to an hour, this can help diagnose without having to sit at the admin page. Note: there is a bug in hourly mode where the previous days logs are still sent out once a day, so the effect is hourly logging 23 hours on the hour and a daily log at the other interval. It’s not quite clear whether this is a bug or a feature. Anyone wishing diagnostic help is welcome to send me a private message.
