Orbi Mesh: option to split 2.4/5 GHz frequencies

I have the ORBI mesh RBK50 system and works good. However, a lot of my devices connect to the slower 2.4GHz band however giving me a speed of 30-50 Mb/s where as on 5 GHz in same location I get 350 Mb/s. I don't know why sometimes my devices switch and stay on 2.4Ghz. In the past on my routers, I always split the SSID according to band so I could ensure my devices were connected to 5Ghz.

There is no option to do this on the orbi mesh WiFi system. I feel like this is a feature that should be added in a future firmware update if people want to do it. A lot of people are asking for this and it can be really helpful for some set ups. Please NETGEAR look into this. If this feature is added, would make the mesh system more flexible and versatile and easily the best mesh WiFi on the market .

  • Better yet, I would appreciate a feature where you can use mac adress filtering on specific bands, offering the possibility to ban specific devices from ever connecting to the 2.4 ghz band. This allows to keep everything under a single SSID, but forcing devices on 5 ghz when desired.

  • ftjacques that sounds like a very good idea! I hope NetGear takes notice of your suggestion. Anyway we can put it forward to them?

  • I have the same issue.  I have used NG for the last 10 years and have always had a need to have seperate SSIDs for my home setup.  Now I have an issue with this new $600 mesh Tri-band RBR750 setup that is forcing my macbook pro to connect to 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz.  I want to have seperate SSIDs.  Why does NG think for us?  It's a basic feature of most routes.  And the inability to shut off broadcast of the SSID is rediculous.  I'm going to have to return this setup and other than this, it works very well.  Come on NG, listen to your customers please??
